The
Brahmaputra Darshan festival is organised in the state of Arunachal Pradesh every
year rotation wise at Roing, Pasighat and Tezu on 29th and 30th January. It
was previously held at Roing and Pasighat and in 2003 this festival is being
organised at Tezu, headquarters of Lohit district with pomp and gaiety.
The
Brahmaputra Darshan Festival aims at projecting the Brahmaputra river as a symbol of
integrity and communal harmony. The river Brahmaputra which originates at Manash Sarovar
flows eastward through snow-capped rough mountains and gorges of great Himalaya in Tibet
and enters into India through Arunachal Pradesh. In Tibet it is known as Tsangpo, while in
Arunachal Pradesh it is known as Siang or Dibang. The river Lohit or Lohitya which flows
through Lohit district after entering at kibithoo from China and Dibang river, that flows
through Dibang valley and Lower Dibang valley district meet with river Siang and take its
name Brahmaputra. |

The
festival begins with puja on the river side. Various events such as traditional dance
& sports, exhibition of handicrafts & herbal medicine, food festival, traditional
boat race, elephant race, fashion show, aero sports, river rafting, angling, elephant
safari etc will be part of the celebrations. Many important dignitaries of the state
and country will participate in the festival. Large number of Indian and foreign tourists
are expected to visit and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and
experience the joy of natural beauty on the river side of majestic Brahmaputra. Besides
promoting tourism of this beautiful part of India, the festival will also show case the
rich tradition and cultural heritage of the tribals living in this state.
