About District
Lohit district is one of the important districts of Arunachal Pradesh with an area of 3735 sq/km. Tezu is headquarter of Lohit district and has an average elevation of 185 metres (606 feet). It is one of the oldest headquarter of Arunachal Pradesh.
Demographically, Lohit district constitutes total population of 49,776 as per 2011 population census out of which 26,365 are males and 23,411 are females. However, as per 2001 population census Lohit district had total population of 42,928 which shows the increased of 6,848 population in the last decade at decennial population growth rate of 15.95 percent. Lohit district also has 30,753 Literate persons out which 17,929 are males and 12,824 are females as per 2011 population census and this constitutes total average literacy rate of 72.1 percent out of which average literacy rate of Male population is 78.9 percent and female is 64.2 percent. Density of population of the district is 13 persons per sq.km. Further, Sex Ratio of the district as per 2011 population census is 888 females per 1000 males and the Child Sex Ratio is 944 females per 1000 males. Lohit district has also total Schedule Tribe population of 15,920 in which 7,589 population are male and 8,331 population are female. There are 115 Villages and one Urban in Lohit district.
Tribes like Taraon-Mishmi, Kaman-Mishmi, Idu-Mishmi, Adi and Tai-Khampti are the inhabitant tribes of Lohit district and they are popularly known for their rich customs and culture, colourful traditional dresses and traditions and values.
Politically, the part of Lohit district falls in two constituencies where Tezu and Sunpura circles come under 44th -Tezu (ST) Assembly Constituency and Wakro Circle comes under 46th – Chowkham (ST) Assembly Constituency.
